Drivers in Nevada are being warned to watch out for staged automobile accidents, which are created on purpose to defraud automobile companies. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the number staged accidents or those caused on purpose in Nevada increased by 21 percent from 2012 to 2013 and are one of the fastest growing types of fraud for the insurance industry.
In a staged automobile accident, drivers to create automobile accidents with unsuspecting drivers and will often include passengers in their vehicles who also claim for supposed injuries.
There are several different types of staged accidents, such as when a driver cuts someone off so that they have no choice but have a rear end collision, or they might beckon a driver to enter a lane and then deliberately crash into them, subsequently blaming the victim and denying they signaled them to enter. Another method is by slamming into a victim at an intersection, then saying the victim ran a red light.
Drivers should always be aware of their surroundings and in the event of an accident check how many people were in the vehicle and if any more show up after the accident claiming that they too were in the car and are injured.
