Man Dies in Dune Buggy Accident

An off road accident at Dumont Dunes in the desert has left one man dead.

According to police, at around 12.55 a.m. on Tuesday, they were informed of an accident in Dumont Dunes in the Mohave Desert, about 130 miles southwest of Las Vegas. However, as the dunes are so remote, California Highway Patrol was unable to reach the scene until around 2.40 a.m.

It appears that the 2013 Polaris RZR had flipped several times and the man was ejected. However it is not known how the accident occurred. The man was pronounced dead at the scene with major trauma to his head and neck. The San Bernadino County Coroner’s office identified him as 22 year old Justin Matthew Walker.

There was no comment on the response time from the emergency transport company, Baker Ambulance.

Unrestrained Pets: An Accident Waiting to Happen

We all love our dogs and cats. For many of us they are more than just pets, the are members of the family. It is no wonder, then, that so many people like to take their pets out on  the road with them – especially their dogs. But as you can imagine, having an unrestrained dog in the car can be dangerous. This is because, though we love them, dogs can be a huge distraction to a driver.

A recent study concluded that over half of drivers who have an unrestrained dog in the car while they drive actually pet their dogs. Almost one out of five allow their dogs to sit on their laps, and over 10 percent actually feed their dogs while driving! It says a lot about the bond between man, or woman, and their dog when this kind of bonding continues even while driving. But is it really worth it?

Researchers say that distracted driving can raise a person’s likelihood of causing an auto accident, sometimes to the same level as driving after drinking. Because dogs have a mind of their own, it is best to restrain them when driving. This is not only for your safety and the safety of others on the road, but it’s for the dog’s safety as well. There have been numerous cases of dogs jumping out of a window or sunroof of a moving car. It is clear that caring dog owners want to take man’s best friend on the road with them. But, responsible dog owners make sure the dogs are properly restrained when they do.

Distracted drivers are increasingly the cause of serious and fatal accidents. If you, or anyone you know, has been the victim of an auto accident, call the  law offices of Jolley Urga Woodbury & Little now at (702) 699-7500 or contact us online today.

Negligent Security in Las Vegas

Negligent security falls under premises liability. Property and business owners have a legal duty to maintain a safe environment for customers, employees, and other guests. Negligent security claims typically depend on proving foreseeability of an assault, and the failure to take appropriate measures to provide protection from criminal attacks. Injured patrons may also have a claim for overzealous security if they have been harmed or inappropriately detained by security.

Examples of Negligent Security

The level of security measures expected of a business or property owner depends on the likelihood of a crime occurring. Elements such as the type of business, a history of crime in the area or at the property itself, and knowledge of direct threats are all considered.

The following are examples of conditions which can constitute negligent security:

  • Inadequate security cameras and or monitoring of cameras
  • Inadequate, undertrained, or poorly screened security staff
  • Inadequate screening of other employees
  • Inadequate lighting in parking lots, parking garages, walkways, and other common areas
  • inadequate lock and key control systems in hotels, motels, and apartment buildings
  • Failure to warn guests of potential dangers which are not obvious
  • Lack of panic buttons at ATMs

Our Las Vegas negligent security attorneys have a proven history of obtaining substantial compensation for victims of negligent security. For example, in one case we were able to secure a $10,000,000 settlement for a young woman who was injured as a bystander when a fight broke out between an intoxicated customer and other customers.
