On Tuesday morning a 2 year old child was hit by an SUV.
According to Las Vegas police, the accident happened in the Fiesta apartment complex at University Avenue, near South Durango Drive and Peace Way in the west valley just before noon.
The boy was riding his scooter when it appears that he dashed out from between two parked cars in the parking lot and the 50 year old driver of a 2002 Dodge Durango was unable to avoid him, even though he was driving slowly.
The police went on to say that the driver himself called them, and remained on the scene.
The toddler, who had a broken leg and lung injuries, was taken to the trauma unit at University Medical Center in critical condition, although by the evening his condition had been upgraded to serious.
The abuse and child neglect division of Metro police went to the scene to investigate the supervision of the child, although to date it is unclear whether anyone will be facing charges related to the incident.
