On Saturday, March 21, two people were critically injured in a crash in the southwest valley.
According to police the accident happened shortly before7 p.m. at the intersection of Hacienda Avenue and Grand Canyon Drive. They went on to say that a Mercedes Benz was traveling northbound on Grand Canyon at a high rate of speed. As the car approached Hacienda, a Toyota Corolla was driving westbound on Hacienda and stopped at a two way stop sign at the junction with Grand Canyon.
The Toyota then went into the intersection and collided head on with the Mercedes Benz.
There were three teenagers in the Mercedes and two men in the Toyota. The passenger in the Toyota was ejected from the vehicle. All were taken to University Medical Center with the occupants of the Toyota both in critical condition, whereas those from the Mercedes Benz only received minor injuries.
Police were awaiting results of blood analysis to determine if alcohol was involved in the crash.
All lanes at the intersection of Hacienda Avenue and Grand Canyon Drive were shut down for several hours after the accident and police say they suspect that one or both drivers may have been driving under the influence and they are awaiting the results of blood analysis.
