On Friday night, December 4, a man in a wheelchair died having been hit by a hit and run driver.
According to Las Vegas police, the accident happened shortly before 8.30 p.m. in the area of Las Vegas Boulevard North and North Walnut Road in northeast Las Vegas. A vehicle was traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard in the left lane when it hit 46 year old Michael Alan Terrell from North Las Vegas who was being pushed by his wife, 44 year old Judith Terrell as they crossed the street outside of a cross walk.
The car did not stop but is thought to be an early 1990s model of a dark colored Nissan sedan and police say that there are vehicle parts at the scene with serial numbers so they are hoping to discover who is responsible for the incident. A new law in Las Vegas makes the crime of hit and run punishable by a minimum of two years in jail.
Terrell died at the scene and his wife was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
This is the 114th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year and the 53rd pedestrian fatality on Clark County roadways this year, one short of the record of 54 fatalities set in 2013.
