As the United States enters into the hot summer months, more and more children will take to area swimming pools to have a good time. One of the most important aspects of pool safety, especially as it relates to children, is that children should always be supervised when in and around the swimming pool. Children should never be left to play in the pool alone as the risks are simply too great. Additionally, though playing in the swimming pool is practically the main reason children like to go for a dip in the pool in the first place, parents and those supervising children should remember to limit the roughhousing so as to prevent serious accidents.

A worker at the MGM Grand hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip fell from a third floor window of the casino on Tuesday, and died as a result of his injuries. According to published reports the employee was working in the hotel when he was unable to get out of the way of a maintenance cart which was moving in his area. The cart pushed the man out of the window and he fell to his death.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently investigating the incident. A spokesman for MGM, Gordon Absher, confirmed that the employee did fall from the third floor, but did not get any additional details. The victim’s name was not released.

Las Vegas resorts have seen their fair share of worker deaths over the years. One of the most prominent incidences occurred in 2013 when an acrobat with the Cirque du Soleil fell approximately 100 feet to her death during a show in June. That accident occurred as a result of a suspension why are snapping. During the investigation into the incident the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited the MGM Grand with multiple violations which exposed employees to increased hazards.

A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening in an accident involving two other vehicles.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, at about 6:10 PM Friday evening a motorcycle rider was speeding while traveling in the northbound lanes near Horizon Drive, and collided with the right side of a Lincoln Navigator. The biker then rebounded and struck the left side of a Ford F150 truck.

The truck then continued forward  until it crashed into a wall. The motorcycle continued into the right shoulder of the road where the biker fell off the bike. The motorcycle continued to skid until it came to a stop and caught fire.

The biker died from his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Ford was taken to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Motorcycle riding in Las Vegas is a pastime enjoyed thousands of people annually. We recommend that those who engage in this activity do so while taking the utmost care and obeying all traffic laws.

On April 1, 2013 a Las Vegas man was driving under the influence of marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and prescription drugs when he crashed his car into an area restaurant during lunch hour, and injured 10 people. The perpetrator, Gage James Lindsey, pleaded guilty this week to felony charges of driving under the influence causing substantial bodily harm.

As a part of his plea deal prosecutors dropped four additional felony charges against the man, as the parties came to an agreement which avoided trial. According to court documents Lindsey had taken Xanax and marijuana in the hours leading up to the moment that he crashed his 1993 Lexus into the Egg & I restaurant on Sahara Avenue. According to witnesses of the incident Lindsey first crossed the median into oncoming traffic, then struck two cars before running into the patio of the restaurant.

After the accident Lindsay reportedly attempted to flee, but was caught by restaurant patrons and good Samaritans in the area. Injuries to the victims included arm and shoulder fractures, other broken bones, one victims suffering a collapsed lung.

Three students, a teacher, and a non-profit official were injured recently in a a freak automobile accident near Las Vegas.

The group was traveling on a trip sponsored by After-School All-Stars, a California based nonprofit organization, when vehicle in which they were traveling suffered a sudden gas tank explosion.  All of the victims were transported to a local hospital in Las Vegas to be treated for burns. Two of the students were critically injured.

The victims were part of a group which traveled to Las Vegas and the Mammoth Resorts in California as part of a ski trip sponsored by the After-School All-Stars nonprofit organization. According to Patricia Karam, executive director of Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, which arranged the trip, the group was en route to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas when the gas tank explosion occurred.

Authorities are still unsure what caused the vehicle’s gas tank to explode.

A collision between a bicyclist and a North Las Vegas police car this week left the bicyclists injured.

According to witnesses, a marked North Las Vegas police turned on East Owens Avenue and struck a bicyclist on Monday at about 3:15 PM.  Apparently the police car had been traveling southbound on Las Vegas Boulevard, and may have made a second turn when it struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was as injured a result of the accident, and was taken to UMC for treatment.  The injuries are said to not have been life-threatening .  The officer involved in the accident was uninjured.

According to North Las Vegas police Officer Chrissie Coon, the department will be conducting an investigation in order to determine exactly what happened during the incident.  Of particular interest will be whether or not the officer driving the patrol car followed proper procedures in the moments immediately preceding the collision with the bicyclist.  Though the investigation into this incident is ongoing, there have been numerous cases in which officers have caused accidents as a result of having not followed proper department protocols.
